Interview with Klaroline Awards Best Smut Author Winner: LoveOblivious

kca_winnersFANFICTION

So this year’s winner for Best Smut Author was the tremendously talented Sophie aka LoveOblivious, who has teased us with her brilliant fanfic Coven as well her other popular fics Get In The Ring and Close. And at the mag jumped at the chance to interview about all things smutty (serious questions are for losers):

KM: So Sophie, tell us more about you, what are your dreams? Do you feel different now that you are an award winner?
Sophie: My dream is to become a Clinical Psychologist, focusing on the treatment of mentally ill patients. So that’s what I’m working towards at the moment!

I don’t feel different in myself per se, but I definitely feel different as a writer! I feel a bit more confident that people actually like what I write, and how I write it. It’s overwhelmingly flattering for this anxious writer!

KM: You won Best Smut Author, an award which many people compare to charitable works, how did it feel to win, and to be nominated a second year in a row?
Sophie: Haha, charitable works, I’ll have to add that to my CV! Like I said, overwhelmingly flattering, and I was just ecstatic to be nominated, let alone win, especially considering all the other fantastic nominees!

KM: What do you think of your work by your fellow nominees? Do you get a chance to read fanfics by fellow Klaroline writers?
Sophie: I don’t get the chance as much as I like! But I had read a few, yes! And, just fantastic! We really have such wonderful writers and artists in the Klaroline community, we’re very lucky to have such talented people!

KM: Your smut is legendary, and has been known to cause frequent underwear changes, what do you do to get into the mood when you are writing smut scenes?
Sophie: I’ve definitely been doing something right then! I read a couple smutty one-shots to get me in the right frame of mind, maybe watch a couple of Klaroline fan vids. But most of the time it just comes naturally. Which says a lot about the way I think!

KM: Smut is also an extremely difficult genre to write because of how much attention to detail you have to pay as well as trying to make the scene ‘hot’ for the audience and make sense for the characters. Do you have any tips for other writers who are struggling with writing smut?
Sophie: Get all the logistics down first. Foreplay, positions, maybe speech. Then you can pad it out with the really sexy stuff! It can feel ridiculous at first, but with the essentials down, I feel less pressure when I can do the more ‘artistic’ writing.

KM: Other than smut, what other genres do you enjoy writing?
Sophie: I really enjoy the supernatural genre as a whole. It really opens up the possibilities for a story in my opinion. I also really like historical, but that includes A LOT of research.

KM: Your tremendously popular fanfiction, Coven, also took home the prizes for Best AU Fiction and Most Unique Fiction. What was your inspiration for Coven and what are your future plans for it?
Sophie: My original inspiration was when the American Horror Story trailers for the third season ‘Coven’ came out. It’s where the honorary title comes from. The plot just strolled fully formed into my head in Klaroline form when, strangely enough, I was putting my perfume on to go out for the day.

KM: If you could write Klaroline having sex anywhere (that you haven’t already written) where would it be?
Sophie: Yikes, I’ve written a lot of Klaroline sex, in a lot of different places. New Orleans in Hayley’s bed? Idk, maybe that’s just my not so inner bitch coming out!

KM: You recently started a new fanfiction ‘Tangled Up In You’ based on my favorite Disney pairing – Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. What are your plans with this fic?
Sophie: It’s going to be around 3 instalments, and is basically playing off of the plot of ‘Tangled’ but with a Klaroline twist! So whilst the first chapter is very much like the movie, the second and third are not so much! But it still keeps to the basic storyline of ‘Tangled’.

KM: What’s next for you? An update on Coven or Tangled Up? Or something new?
Sophie: Tangled Up In You is next on my list, as I wanted to finish it completely before doing anything else. Then Coven!
