Klaroline Interview with Best AU AH Author 2016: Sophia Chase

The Klaroline Magazine’s Fanfiction Team got to have a little chat with this year’s winner of the Best AU AH Author 2016, and one of our fandom’s favorite fanfiction writers, Cristy, who goes by the name Sophia Chase.

K.M-  To those people who don’t know you, quickly describe who you are as a fanfiction writer and Klaroliner.

Cristy: I have been writing Klaroline fanfiction for about three years now in my spare time and it is something I absolutely love doing and can’t see myself stopping anytime soon. When I’m writing my drabbles and stories, my absolute weakness is definitely fluff but I’m not afraid to throw in some comedy, drama, romance, and even a bit of angst when required. Real life isn’t roses all the time, so I like my writing to reflect the ups and downs I think we all experience from time to time. When I began writing I never realised what an awesome family I was joining and I have to say my favourite part about being a Klaroliner is definitely the camaraderie, love, and support the Klaroline fandom provides.

K.M- Congratulations on winning Best AU/AH Author 2016, How do you feel about that?

Cristy: Thank you! It feels amazing actually, especially given the distinguished company I was nominated alongside.  I was actually a finalist in the same category last year so to win this year means so much to me. I hope it demonstrates that my writing is improving (well I hope so, anyway).

K.M- When you started writing fanfiction, did you ever think you’ll have so many Klaroliners rooting for you?

Cristy: No! Not at all! It has been overwhelming to say the very least. I don’t think people realize just how much their prompt requests, reviews, messages, and asks mean to me and how much they inspire and encourage me to write and update as much as I can. Thank you, I really do love you guys!

K.M- You write more AU/AH genre than any other genre, why is that genre so special?

Cristy: I’ll be honest and say supernatural and canon isn’t really my specialty, but having said that I love putting Klaus and Caroline in everyday situations, as everyday people with everyday problems. I think a lot of those scenarios can be forgotten in a supernatural world because there’s so many other things going on at the same time. There’s nothing better than seeing and writing Klaus and Caroline vulnerable to real human emotions and feelings, finding their way in the real world.

K.M- Who do you like to write most as human, Klaus or Caroline and why?

Cristy: Definitely Caroline, mainly because I love the fact that she is so independent, smart, and feisty and never backs down from an argument. Although at the same time she can be vulnerable and show a much softer side when required. Not to mention the fact that she is also so kind and considerate towards her friends and loved ones.  I also love writing Klaus as a strong, formidable, and compatible opponent to her but definitely with a soft spot for his favourite girl.

K.M- What usually inspires your ideas of an alternative universe fan fiction?

Cristy: I have so many inspirations for my writing. It can be something that has happened in my real life professionally or socially or something I’ve seen in a movie or read in a book. I always try to keep my ideas current and interesting and true to Klaroline, as much as I can.

K.M- Is it hard to think of writing a human Klaus? What parts of his personality do you write differently than Vampire Klaus?

Cristy: Yeah it’s definitely difficult because vampire Klaus is so dark, ruthless, and blood thirsty and we rarely see his soft side, whereas you can write human Klaus as a lot more forgiving and open with his emotions. Most of the time my human Klaus is an arrogant womaniser with flaws who has a lot of false bravado, but when it comes to Caroline he can’t help but fall in love with her.
